PEAR CRISP FOR TWO

Pear Crisp for Two // Wit & Vinegar

Fall came on to me strong you guys. One day it was all hey sunshine then today I woke up to rain and I was like, whoa fall take it easy. I just broke up with Summer and you’re already trying to get to second base? Pump the brakes.

I’m first-dating fall with some baked fruit plus carbs on top. I have yet to open the can of pumpkin in my cupboard because I know when I do it’s gonna be like that part in Ghostbusters where the machine is reversed and the ghosts get out and then I’ll just be lying in the middle of my kitchen floor cryeating every pumpkin baked good imaginable. That can’t happen unless I’m on a reality show.

Pear Crisp for Two // Wit & Vinegar

This pear crisp for two is good for holding off the pumpkin. It still tastes like fall, is perfect for the cooler weather/rain attacks, and pears are super cheap right now. You can go out and make this dish for like $3. Cheaper than a pumpkin spice latte.

Go on and get it.

BUTTERNUT SQUASH & CHORIZO SHELLS

Butternut Squash & Chorizo Shells // Wit & Vinegar

FALL IS UPON US. Sort of.

It’s fall enough to have some butternut squash in my face, it’s fall enough for me to want to smash open a can of pumpkin every time I open the cupboard, and it’s fall enough for me to wear every sweater I own all at once and look for a beanie that actually fits my enormous alien head.

Today was the first day in a while that it was actually cold. While I was on campus. With no sweatshirt. Of course. But it made me crave some butternut squash. It’s weird because I really can’t stand butternut squash unless it’s serving as a mean blanket for pasta and cheese. It’s the same with sweet potatoes except those are never allowed in my house. Sorry Oprah.

Butternut Squash & Chorizo Shells // Wit & Vinegar

It’s been a while since I’ve had the butternut squash pasta so I took another crack at it, this time adding one of my favorite things: chorizo. There’s just something about the spicy chorizo layered with the sweetness from the butternut squash that makes me want to make out with a bowl of pasta just a little bit more than usual. Let’s get our carb on.

GROCERY LIST XXVIII

Grocery List XVIII // Wit & Vinegar

Oh, hello there, it’s been a while. Like a really long while. I haven’t posted because I’ve been so busy lounging around with no pants on eating nachos.

FALSE.

Short story: school and creative rut, the end. Just life happening, it’s all good. Besides that novel there were a few really great things happening:

Labor day brunch with my gurls Anna and Jen. I haven’t seen either one in what feels like forever and it was so good to just eat carbs and catch up.

A few weeks ago Steve and I went down to SF and I got to hang/eat dinner/shit shoot with my gurl Tracy. We had an awesome talk with good falafel then we walked around this crazy grocery store. It looked like this:

Grocery List XVIII // Wit & Vinegar

Tracy’s super awesome.

The other great thing involves the Joy the Baker Podcast and Mariah Carey. And a darechallenge. No big deal, I just SANG MARIAH CAREY’S FANTASY FOR EVERYONE’S EARS. Listen/don’t listen. But listen, and look for my photoshopping in the show notes.

Now that I’ve read you several short stories, we can slam down this grocery list:

FLAX SEED DOGGY FROYO

Flax Seed Doggy Froyo // Wit & Vinegar

Let me just start out by saying this post is brought to you by the event of Mose’s birthday. He just turned 5 which means he is really 35 in dog years which means he should have already learned how to start picking up his own shit. Even though he doesn’t know how to do that I still love him an incredible amount. He’s just that fabulous.

I’ve never actually gone out of my way to make Mose any treats myself because I don’t do terribly well with rolling things out then cutting them then getting them to the tray and having them look remotely close to the shape of the cookie cutter. Also, for Mose a treat is like half a pancake or a chunk of french bread. That kid is addicted to carbs. HE IS MY DOG.

I saw these over on Megan’s blog forever ago and bookmarked them. I’m trying to kick myself for not making them sooner.

The thing I love about these treats is that they come together in about 5 min and we’re experiencing somewhat of a heat wave so I like to think that these cool him off. Even though he lets the whole thing sit in his mouth for about 6 seconds then swallows it whole because apparently he hasn’t learned what teeth are for.

These are made with just a few ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen and there’s nothing super weird so if you wanted to, I don’t know, eat one, you totally could.

Did I eat one? Yes, I was curious. They actually taste like a peanut butter moo’d shake from Jamba Juice, so there.

Can we just pretend I had these up last week and all of our dogs got to celebrate popsicle week with us? Yes? Okay, cool. Dogs need voom voom shebang too.

VEGAN PEANUT BUTTER FUDGESICLES

Vegan Peanut Butter Fudgesicles // Wit & Vinegar

Alright, let’s get the two obvious things out the way: Buster hand and arm hair. Boom. Done. Sorry.

Next time I’ll paint my nails.

A third obvious thing is Ramona Singer eyesface VEGAN PEANUT BUTTER FUDGESICLES.

If you follow me on the twitter or on instagram you know that I’ve mentioned Popsicle Week a few times. IT’S FINALLY HERE. And these bebes are my contribution. I love these fudgesicles for a few reasons: they’re really really good, they’re super easy, and the ingredients for them are probably hiding in your pantry right now. Like peek-a-boo go get ’em and make yourself some fudgesicles

I tweaked the recipe for these from the pops my gurl Megan made earlier this summer. I’ve made the espresso ones a couple times then figured I’d swap out the espresso for peanut butter because well, duh. The result is a nice creamy fudgesicle that will rival anything you can buy in the store. Voom voom shebang to that, supermarket.

Vegan Peanut Butter Fudgesicles // Wit & Vinegar

Before we get to the recipe let’s just announce popsicle week, AGAIN. The deets: 26 bloggers, which means 26 popsicles, which means hot fun in whatever’s left of the summertime. Next year we’ll totally get it started sooner, but until then let’s put on our Crazy In Love cut offs and red heels summer outfits and do the popsicle diet. For breakfast: Vegan Peanut Butter Fudgesicles.

GROCERY LIST XXVII

Grocery List XXVII // Wit & Vinegar

That picture is Mose making his “I heard you say bath and now I’m pretending you can’t see me” face. Obviously I can see him, obviously he got a bath. You’re just lucky I didn’t show you his nails. It’s like I’m living with Wolverine.

Maybe though we can pretend that’s not his bath face and he’s about to jump out and shimmy and yell IT’S ALMOST POPSICLE WEEK!! and then dance around throwing popsicles at everyone. Seriously everyone, get excited. There’s some goodness that’s going to be filling your freezer. Now with that creepy image of Mose dancing on two legs, let’s write a grocery list.

First up is a sandwich that I want to have for every meal/party/occasion: BROCCOLINI PANINI. I’ve made Tracy’s panini with broccoli turkey and cheddar and I almost punched a hole in the wall. This sandwich will probably make me want to do the same. (via Shutterbean)

Erika went out and slammed peach cobbler into a muffin. No big deal except really big deal. (via Southern Souffle)

Megan made everyone some vegetarian sliders and stuffed them with goat cheese. Also she made her own buns. Get out of here Megan. jkomglol. (via Take a Megabite)

Nicole went out and made a bunch of dark chocolate rocky road cookies that I want to eat an entire batch of. In one sitting. Ask Steve, I could do it. (via Dula Notes)

Adrianna talks about jet skiing at 10 like a pro and shakes up an insane looking melon gin and tonic. (via A Cozy Kitchen)

Dana’s all like let me jump on that drank train with a 3 INGREDIENT CARAMEL FRAPPE. psst it’s vegan. (via Minimalist Baker)

Then Cindy cabooses up that drank train with her blackberry ginger smash like whoa. (via Hungry Girl Por Vida)

Joy talks about burning toast. Then topping it with tuna. Once I burned my last two pieces of bread for avocado toast then made the smoke alarm feel my wrath when it tried to remind me what happened. Also can we just oogle Joy’s workspace? (via Joy the Baker)

Izy grilled pizza for everyone like she’s trying to woo me or something. Also she posted the best video involving Pizza and the Olsen twins that just made my week. (via Top With Cinnamon)

Jessica thought it’d be cool to wave chicken skewers in my face then swap that out for avocado ranch. Seriouslyyou guys, AVOCADO RANCH. (via How Sweet It Is)

Steph made HAND PIES OUT OF PRETZEL DOUGH, BRIE, AND JAM LIKE SHE’S A WIZARD. I mean, come on Steph, you’re out of control. I haven’t shown this link to Steve yet because I fear it’s all he’ll want to eat forever. (via Girl Versus Dough)

For music this week I give you something you’ve probably already heard and something that I should’ve put on the minute I heard it but I didn’t. Sorryboutit Bey. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I just need a lock of her hair just like, clipped to the side of my head plus back up dancers. Instant growwwwn woman. Also I can’t get over this performance and this is total appropriate muffin baking music the end.
