HAPPY NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY!

National Doughnut Day! // Wit & Vinegar

It’s national doughnut day you guys! Last year we were feeling ourselves with Lilo parent trap inspired peanut butter oreo doughnuts but this year there’s no recipe, just a link to v cool doughnut tumblr and a failed cover image from the book because I’ve shared zero things.

This is actually the placeholder for the cover that’s being finished up right now that’s 1000x better and I’m really excited for you guys to see it. There were probably twice as many doughnuts as this and this was the sort of final number that made it, v america’s next top doughnut. I figured since I didn’t have a recipe we could talk real quick about what goes on the doughnut.

I seriously asked if I could use acrylic gems and rhinestones but the publisher said only edible things because this is a cookbook and I was like -__- but obviously that makes sense. Every doughnut had to be different so I got high off pinterest and used a box cake mix to make like 40 doughnuts. SECRETS OF THE STYLISH.

For the icing though I used my favorite: 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, and a pinch of salt. So good, so classic, made me feel a’ight about using that box of yellow cake.

For toppings you should always go crazy shit because no matter what it’s always a doughnut in the end. Up there we have cocoa nibs, bright icing, hazelnuts, unsweetened coconut that looks like a sweater, unsweetened coconut that I shook in a bag with food coloring that looks like monster fur, lustre dust painted on, and lustre dusted cornflakes because glamour. Then of course the basic sprinkles because those are life.

I know I don’t really have any recipe but go HERE for some goodness (pop rock doughnuts!!) from a lot of cool bloggers that are awesome that made a doughnut hub for doughnut day spectacular.
