THE SUGAR HIT’S GARBAGE BROWNIES

The Sugar Hit's Garbage Brownies // Wit & VinegarI know maybe some of you are confused. Garbage brownies? Is there a connection to the end of back to the future part I? Do we make these and eat an entire pan while we watch any of the housewives franchise? Are these the thing we make for frenimies so we can yell “here’s some garbage brownies for your garbage life!”?

(lol at frenimies because if I don’t like you you’ll know it. You’re just a basic I don’t have time for.)

The answer is none of the above! These babies actually come from Sarah‘s super kewl cookbook that’s out and ready to sweep you off your feet.

The Sugar Hit's Garbage Brownies // Wit & VinegarThe garbage portion actually comes from just throwing whatever the hell you want into a really really really good brownie. Seriously I would make this plain (jk there would be giant walnuts) and eat an entire pan to myself then probably throw up because that’s a lot to handle.

The cool thing about the brownie portion is that it’s a cocoa powder based brownie so odds are you could go make these right now because you don’t need that chocolate bar that you ‘accidentally’ already at half of.

U know who u r.

The Sugar Hit's Garbage Brownies // Wit & VinegarThe garbage portion is the fun part where you get to throw all your childhood hopes and dreams into the brownie batter so it goes from just plain brownies to garbage brownies.

I actually opted to use a childhood dream of mine and use Nutty Bars because Steve bought me a box when I mentioned them after seeing those stupid Little Debbie commercials. I ate 3 packages of the waxy peanut butter not real chocolate combo but I have self control and decided to use the rest in these brownies but don’t think I wasn’t considering a package of crumb donettes.

The Sugar Hit! is super cool and full of fun recipes like this so don’t waste any more time and go buy it and if for some reason these gems don’t persuade you go check out Adrianna’s giant cinnamon bun  and Michelle’s biggest sticky bun in the world and Cindy’s brownie milkshake.

Also maybe you could just make these brownies right now.

Garbage Brownies

From The Sugar Hit!

11 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups white granulated sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
hefty pinch of salt
2 large eggs
1/3 cup unbleached all purpose flour
heaping cup of garbage mix-ins (I used 4 nutty bars that I sliced. It was a heaping cup and then some, the then some got sprinkled over the top)

Heat the oven to 320F and grease and line an 8×8″ baking dish with parchment so there’s a nice hangover so we can airlift the cooled brownies out.

In a medium sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat (don’t brown or burn).

Once it’s melted, turn off the heat and add the sugar and cocoa powder and mix until thoroughly combined and no lumps remain.

Add vanilla, salt, and eggs, and stir until combined.

Carefully fold in the flour just until you can’t see it anymore. Fold in whatever garbage you want (peanut butter cereal, peanut butter cups, crumb donettes, my nutty bar route etc) if you have a heaping cup and then some, sprinkle the then some over the top and bake for 20-25 min.* until the top is glossy and crackly like the image above. You can’t really do the toothpick because you sort of want these fudgy and undercooked.Cool completely before lifting out of the pan and cutting into 16 brownies. Freezing for about 15 minutes helps even more with the cutting business.

*the original recipe says 20 min, mine took 25 but I also had to try and fish out a macaroni noodle that fell inside the oven right when I put the brownies in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
